After fielding first against tough opposition, the 1XI had a difficult first half to their bowling innings. Nigel Stoodley and Sam Willis started off, with Nigel proving tricky to face, pinning the Roebucks’ opening batsmen on the pad a few times but to no avail. At drinks Roebucks were perilously set on 97-0, on what was a tricky track. After drinks, the tide turned and tight spells from Ben Gittings and Graham Razey pegged back the opposition and strong death bowling from Daniel Blakeburn and Tom Evans, with 3 wickets each, Roebucks were restricted to 183. A great second half.
To start the chase, Dave Sibley hit a lovely six over long off, but that was the best from the openers. With Ben Gittings and Tom Evans in relatively early they set about getting through a tricky spell. Both initially managed well, but without troubling the scorers too much, before another couple of wickets fell, including Dan Blakeburn receiving a shooter that pinned him in front. At this point, Tom Evans stepped up a gear, hitting three 6’s at the start of one over, with the fourth delivery almost doing the same. With support from Dan Gilbert and Marcus Rodrigues the scoring rate was maintained before Tom Evans fell for a fine 88. With Offham needing 25 from the last 5 overs, Graham Razey struck some lovely shots to get us close before falling. Needing four runs from the final over of the match, Nigel Stoodley struck the winning runs.
